Product Description

Many people use lace closures to finish off a full sew in weave, or to apply to the top of the head to cover a thinning crown. Our lace closures are 100% human hair, hand tied for multidirectional styling. They can be applied with adhesive or sewn on using weaving thread.

A lace closure is made of hair, hand knotted to a lace base and can be parted anywhere. This eliminates the need to "leave out" any of your biological hair to blend with your hair extensions. Lace closures also have baby hair, for a natural looking hairline and can be parted in the center, or on the side, or not parted at all.

Questions and Answers

If I order online, can I pick it up at the store?

Yes. We have a "will call" shipping method where you can place an order online and pick up at the store. This method will save you the shipping cost and will also enable you to view the hair before taking it home. Please call us to ensure the item you wish to purchase is at the store (some wigs are stored at our office and we do not allow will call at our office location).

Are the hairpieces made from human hair?

All of our hairpieces are always made with human hair. We do not use synthetic hair at all.

Can I apply heat to the hair on my hairpiece?

Yes. Since all of our wigs are made from human hair, they can be styled just like biologically grown human hair. However, because you can use heat does not mean that you should. With prolonged and repeated exposure to heat, you will damage a wig in the same way you will damage your own biological hair, so be careful with the usage of heat. Do not use flat irons or curling irons with the temperature set too high or with burned or charred residue.

Can I take the hairpiece off every night?

Not if you use adhesive to bond your unit around the perimeter because the application and removal of adhesive can be a very aggressive process that will wear the perimeter over time. Doing this on a daily basis is not only time consuming, it will eventually damage the base materials. Removing your hairpiece every night is a perfectly viable option though, if you opt for combs or clips.

Do I have to glue the hairpiece on?

No. If you do not want to use adhesive, the other options are combs and clips, or using a sew on method, or micro ring attachment. Sew ons and micro ring attachments should be performed by licensed cosmetologists

How long I can leave the hairpiece on at a time?

If you are not using adhesive to bond the unit around the perimeter, then removing it nightly is a great option. Removing your hairpiece nightly will prolong the life of the hairpiece. Out of all the choices you can make with the care of your hairpiece, not sleeping in it or engaging in any aggressive activities while wearing the hairpiece will best help to prolong its life.

Most customers use an adhesive bond and keep the hairpiece on for one to two weeks at a time. We don't recommend a bond longer than that because the combination of the breakdown of the adhesive, body chemistry, sweat or oil, hair products, skin products, make-up, soap it can become an extremely messy situation. People who have poor grooming habits can end up with a sticky residue that is extremely difficult to remove, and build layers of stubborn residue over time.

Is the hairpiece double or single knotted?

There was once a time when "double knots" was a popular option for people ordering lace wigs online. Most customers would order them, then complain that the knots were "too big." Honestly, at Zara Wigs we rarely have a customer request double knots on an actual order, however the inquiry arises from time to time.We work hard to understand what the customer is really asking for, instead of relying on the accuracy of the terminology the customer uses. This is because, often, a client who has researched lace wigs online, has found the wrong terminology to describe what they want. Consequently, we ask them to describe the end result, not focus on the terminology.

Getting to the answer...

As a standard, we don't double knot the hair on our wigs. Most people want the smallest knots possible, and double knots are actually knotted twice, which makes the knot larger, and nearly impossible to bleach. What we have found, is that most people who ask about double knots aren't actually asking about double knots, they are asking if we use single strand ventilation vs multi-strand ventilation. In other words, how many hairs are in each knot. Generally speaking, along the front hairline and first few inches of a wig, we use single strand ventilation, one hair per knot. Once we get into the crown, there are often 2 hairs per knot, and towards the back there can be 2-3 hairs per knot. There are a variety of other ventilation techniques used, but this is just a basic explanation. In medium-heavy and heavy density wigs, there may be 4 hairs per knot to meet the density requirement. When there is more than one hair per knot, that is called multi strand ventilation.

What are the downsides of using clips on a hairpiece or topper?

There is no easy solution when choosing to wear a hairpiece or topper, for most women. Some women will shave their hair to achieve a great bonded application. Many women will not consider the option. Others will opt for what we call a mechanical attachment meaning there is something holding the hairpiece in place. The most common mechanical attachment is clips (snap clips)

The downside to wearing clips is that a lot of women will eventually experience more thinning in the areas where the clips are placed. To combat this, many wearers will rotate the position of the clips every 2-3 weeks, so they are not constantly in the same position.

Another downside of clips is that many women have a sensitive scalp and the pressure of clips is too uncomfortable after hours of wear. You also need enough healthy biological hair for a clip attachment, as applying to hair that is severely thinning is not a good idea.

What do people do with their hair while wearing a hairpiece?

That depends on how much hair they have. People who have long hair typically either wrap it or braid it. People who have short hair, in the range of four or five inches and less, can just smooth the hair down and wear a nylon wig cap. There are many clients who will opt to shave a very sparse area of hair to allow bonding of a hairpiece, this is a very personal, and often emotional, decision.

Why should I specify if I am wearing bangs in my hairpiece or topper?

The top reason to specify if you are wearing bangs in your hairpiece or topper is that you need a little more density at the front hairline to achieve a full bang. A client who needs a natural hairline on a topper often has a thinning hairline, thus the density at the hairline of the topper is light, for better blending with the client's own hairline. If you are wearing a bang, this is not an issue for you, and you need more hair at the hairline.

Will I be able to apply the hairpiece myself?

This depends on how good you are at caring for hair. People who were never good at taking care of their own hair should not take it upon themselves to take care of a wig or hairpiece, and people who are already pretty good at taking care of their own hair do a pretty good job with the wig or hairpiece. This has been our general experience. It also really depends on you and your patience level. If you get rushed, frustrated or hasty with the application or removal process, you're going to do more harm than good. If you're not that good with styling hair or taking care of it, you're better off working with a trusted and qualified hair stylist.
